About HB

Haus der Barmherzigkeit looks back on around 150 years of experience and is now one of the leading facilities in interdisciplinary long-term care. The organization includes seven nursing hospitals and homes for around 1,200 geriatric residents, as well as residential communities for the disabled and day centers at over twenty locations in Vienna and Lower Austria with around 450 care places.

Why do we refer to our patients as "residents"? Because the majority of our residents live in our facilities as their final “place of residence”. The term “resident” therefore seems more appropriate.

About HABIT

HABIT is a subsidiary of the Haus der Barmherzigkeit Group, where HABIT stands for "Haus der Barmherzigkeit Integrationsteam" (House of Mercy Integration Team). HABIT provides high-quality care and support for individuals with severe disabilities and high nursing needs, focusing on enabling them to lead as independent lives as possible.

As part of our interdisciplinary team, we accompany and support our clients in their daily lives, enabling them to live a self-determined life in dignity. Various educational and nursing concepts such as supported communication, language support in sign language, basal stimulation, kinesthetics and pedagogically integrated care contribute to this support.

What is a nursing hospital?

Our nursing hospitals stand out by providing not only nursing care but also round-the-clock medical care. Additionally, a therapy team is available, and many examinations (e.g., X-rays) can be conducted directly on-site, sparing residents the effort of transportation to a hospital.

Safety in Austria

Vienna has once again won first place for the most livable city in the world in the British “Economist” group’s “The Global Liveability Index 2022”. The evaluation compares health systems, safety, education, culture, infrastructure, political stability, and crime rates across 173 cities worldwide. Austria was also ranked 11th out of 167 in "The Legatum Prosperity Index" in 2021, with a notable emphasis on safety. According to the OECD Better Life Index, Austria scored 9.3 out of 10 points in the "Safety" category, well above the average.
